How to light the MOON fire basket

MOON is the ultimate fire basket for effortless and smokeless fire. Its revolutionary wood gasification technology allows for dual combustion, which can put an end to smoke. Decide for yourself whether you prefer to use firewood or pellets for your fire.

Which fuel do you choose?

MOON gives you the ultimate choice, allowing you to use either wood or pellets in the fire basket.
If you choose wood, you can experience the familiar campfire feeling, refine your stacking technique and take responsibility for keeping the fire going.
The advantage of using pellets is that you only need to fill MOON a single time. Once lit, the fire burns continuously for two hours, smoke-free and without refuelling, leaving you free to devote your full attention to your guests.

How to light MOON with pellets

Once lit, the pellets provide a smokeless fire for two hours. It's as simple as that:

Fill the MOON with pellets, leaving the circle of holes below the opening free (MOON 45 ~10–12 kg of pellets, MOON 55 ~20 kg of pellets).

Alternatively, firelighters can be placed on the pellets below the circle of holes.

Light the firelighters or the bioethanol, watch the pellets start to burn and after a few minutes you will see the fascinating play of flames.

MOON Airstream for an even more stable flame

Especially when heating with pellets, the MOON Airstream ensures a consistent, controlled air supply inside the MOON, enabling a reliable, low-smoke fire even in windy conditions (accessory for MOON 45, permanently installed on MOON 55).

The nozzle stabilises the airflow and directs oxygen precisely into the combustion chamber. This optimally supports both primary and secondary combustion, keeping the flame calm, stable and beautifully shaped.

How to light MOON with wood

Place two thick logs parallel to each other in the MOON fire basket. Stack three thinner logs sideways on a second level. Finally, place another two or three thin logs on a third level.

Take three kindling balls or kindling wool and place them between the top logs. Light these and let the fire burn from top to bottom.

When the wood is fully blazing, you can add more logs. However, always make sure that the perforated circle below the opening remains free to allow for secondary combustion.

Step by step to the BBQ pleasure

Whether you prefer grilling with wood or pellets is entirely up to you. In any case, it’s important to prepare everything for the fire first, then place the Plancha, and finally ignite the fire.

Here’s how:

Align MOON so that it stands upright. Fill the fire basket with wood or pellets.

Check that the plancha is securely in place, then light the fire.

Let the plancha heat up for 10-15 minutes at full flame, then place the grillables on it.

WHEN THE WIND BLOWS OUT THE FLAMES:
HOW TO REKINDLE THE FIRE

When using pellets, the fire is more sensitive to wind than when using firewood. In both cases, however, the fire can easily be rekindled.

If a gust of wind extinguishes the fire and turns the flames to smoke, take your barbecue or fire tongs, grab a firelighter and light it.
